Summer School Withdrawals Are Expected to Number 225

About 225 out of a total of 2728 students are expected to withdraw before completion of the Summer School term.

Leonard Holmberg, Summer School registrar, said the final attrition rate will be roughly equal to that of last year's Summer School session.

Forty-seven students had officially withdrawn by last Friday and another 80 to 100 had not turned in final study cards, Holmberg said.

"They come here, they wait around a few days, and then they discover that they can't raise the money or don't like the courses and they drop out," he said.

Last year at this time 64 students out of a total of 3586 had withdrawn from Summer School, while 99 failed to file study cards.

By the end of last summer 306 students had withdrawn. University officials said they are unable to account for this eight-per-cent attrition rate.

"It happens every year." Lois A Hertzler, director of housing for the Summer School said.
