Golfers Down Brown and B.C. In 3-Way Meet

Even without freshman wonder Alex Vik and co-captain Steve McConnell, the Harvard golf team stroked its way to an easy victory over Brown and Boston College yesterday.

Playing at the Agawam Country Club in Providence, Rhode Island, the Crimson linksmen scored an 11-stroke victory over Brown and a 23-stroke victory over Boston College.

Harvard captain Tom Yellin was low scorer in the tri-meet, carding a 76 on Brown's par 71 home course, which he said was fairly easy compared to others the team had played this year.

Two other Crimson golfers broke 80 yesterday-Jon Ellis, who had a 77, and freshman David Paxton, who finished with a 78. Peter Zurkow played to an even 80.

Five players from each school were counted in the team score, although seven played the course yesterday. Robin Wynne and Scott McNealy tied for the Crimson's fifth place with 82s, and Mark DiCammillo rounded out the team with an 83.

Harvard's five man score was 393, while Brown had 404, and Boston College was far behind, carding a 416 total.

Lose to Yale and Princeton

Yellin said the golf team was relaxed about yesterday's meet, their first after last Thursday's loss to Yale and Princeton in a tri-meet at The Country Club in Brookline.

The team's next match is tomorrow against Williams and Holy Cross in Worcester, However, the Crimson golfers are just gearing up for the Eastern Intercollegiate Golf Association's championship matches on Saturday and Sunday at the Yale golf course in New Haven.

Yellin said McConnell and Vik missed yesterday's tri-meet because they had to catch up on course work before the beginning of reading period. He said the Crimson golfers practice at least six hours a day, and matches may take up an entire day.
