A group of Cambridge citizens has announced plans for a May 10 convention to nominate a "single reform slate" of candidates for the Cambridge City Council and School Committee.
City Councilor David A. Wylie said yesterday the convention is an attempt to achieve "greater unity and effectiveness on behalf of the reform or progressive side of Cambridge politics."
Cambridge Convention '75 has been endorsed by five local political groups, including three that endorsed a separate slate of candidates in the 1973 city election. In that election "reform" candidates won only four of the nine seats on the city council.
The convention has been endorsed by Americans for Democratic Action, Cambridge Civic Association, Citizens for Participation in Political Action, Common Slate and Grass Roots Organization.
Crucial Feature
The convention organizers plan to print a "Call to the Convention," listing the issues they believe are "crucial to the future of Cambridge," and deliver it to all Cambridge houses this month.
The convention will be open to all Cambridge residents.
