The Holcombe Case

In Progress

Sherman L. Holcombe, the shop steward of the Radcliffe dining halls, has another hearing on Tuesday with Personnel Office officials to discuss further a suspension he received last month.

The complex story, so far, is this: Holcombe was suspended after his supervisors said he was taking unauthorized time off work and violating other rules; Holcombe said he was simply doing his job as shop steward.

So Holcombe got a three-day suspension, which after a hearing was later reduced to one day. But he is unwilling to accept any suspension at all, and hence sent his last paycheck back to Personnel because it included a pay reduction stemming from the suspension.

Holcombe said this week he will not accept the paycheck "unless they tear up my suspension form."
