Two Radcliffe freshmen announced yesterday they are forming a female counterpart to the Harvard Krukodiloes to debut in either June or September.

Kathy Manning '78 and Diane Nabstoff '78 said the as-yet-unnamed 12-women group will perform popular songs, show tunes, and possibly '40s music for both Harvard-Radcliffe and outside audiences.

Manning said she hopes the group will be associated with the Hasty Pudding Club, performing with the club and working out of its building.

Manning said the Krokodiloes provided the inspiration for the group's founding. "We went to see the Kroks perform and they were very good, but they also seemed to really enjoy singing," she said. "It's so different from any of the chairs around here."

James L. Volling '75, business manager for the Krokodiloes, said yesterday he supports the idea. "I think it's fantastic and long overdue," he said. "Practically every other school we sing with has a girls group, and we are confident they will be a tremendous success."

The group will hold auditions next week, Manning said.
