Boston University Escapes B.C., 5-3

Boston College, playing perhaps its finest game of the season, came close, but it wasn't good enough, as the Eagles lost a heartbreaking 5-3 game to Boston University last night at the Garden.

The Terriers were ahead after the first period, 1-0, when B.C. erupted for three unanswered goals early in the second stanza. Defenseman Richie Smith tallied at 2:11 to the things up, and Paul Barrett added a score 2:19 later to give the Eagles a 2-1

However, the real drama of the game came at 11:39 when Richie Smith was tripped from behind by the Terriers' Mike Fay inside the B.U. blue line, resulting in a seldom-called penalty shot. Smith made the goal with ease, and the Eagles were flying with a 3-1 lead.

B.U. stormed back though, with a 5-on-3 goal at 12:08, followed by a 5-on-4 tally at 13:33.

Vie Standfield scored the winner at 16:06 of the third, and Terry Meagher added an insurance goal with less than a minute left to give B.U. the win.
