To the Sports Editor.
In the face of your usually reliable hockey reporting, it seems a shame that your picture captions often bear no resemblance to the photographs they are purported to describe. Last week, we were issued a picture of Jim McMahon, who was cleverly identified as Leigh Hogan. Any hockey fan worth his Section 18 seat can tell you that Hogan is number S. McMahon 15; that Hogan shoots right, and McMahon left: and that McMahon sports a mustache. The last time I looked, Hogan's upper maxilla was bare.
Then in the 19 February issue, we find a picture whose caption describes Ed Rossi and Randy Roth chasing a puck. Not only is there no Randy Roth in the picture, not to mention a puck, chased or otherwise, but the most obvious player in the picture, sweet-smiling Steve Janicek, isn't even mentioned. If Steve will forgive you, I'm willing also, but your already high standards would better be served by a corresponding high quality.
