BRUINS, CELTICS WIN

John Havlicek and Jo Jo White led a 36-point third-quarter scoring outburst as the Celtics beat the Kansas City Kings 118-104 last night.

Havlicek and White scored 10 points each in the crucial third period. The Havlicek-White scoring combination helped bring the Celtics from a 50-48 halftime deficit to an 84-77 advantage at the start of the fourth quarter.

The Kings led 61-60 with 7:50 left in the third period before Havlicek scored four straight baskets to start the scoring barrage.

A sellout crowd of over 11,000 watched the Celtics win their seventh straight and twelfth in the last 14 games.

In National Hockey League action last night, the Bruins squeaked by the Washington Capitals 3-2 to move into a tie for first place with the Buffalo Sabres. Dave Reece, who had not played in the last 17 games, started in goal for the Bruins.
