Look out. Sunday night may be the night for Boston's finest jazz concert of the year. On the outside it looks fairly stellar--Sun Ra and His Humanitarian Arkestra playing two shows at the Boston Center for the Arts at 7 and 9 p.m.

But once inside there is at least a pretty good chance, sources say, that drummer Max Roach and saxophonist Archie Shepp will be sitting in with Sun Ra. The combination should be dynamite.

It may be worth heading out to Beverly this weekend for some of Philly Joe Jones's drumming. Jones tuned with the master sax artist. Coleman Hawkins, in the early 60's--and he's got one of the best beats around. He'll be playing through Sunday at Sandy's Jazz Revival.
