The Crimson lacrosse team notched its second victory of the season at home Saturday, edging Yale 5-3. The win was the first in the series for Harvard since 1971, and only the 13th in 53 outing between the rivals.
The contest was never really in question as Harvard's Fred Adair opened the scoring with an unassisted shot at 6:32 in the first period. Yale tied the game early in the second period, but the Crimson countered with three goals by Giles Whalen, Greg Jackmauh and Daily Kennedy.
Jim Quinn collected Harvard's only assists for the day, feeding Whalen and Jackmauh for scores in the torrid second period.
Yale managed a score late in the third period, but Al Costello put the icing on the cake for Harvard, tallying an unassisted goal at 3:52 in the last period.
Leroy Thomson, staring ahead of regular Bruce Poliquin, collected 14 saves in the contest. The stickmen's last home match is this Saturday against Dartmouth.
