Women's lacrosse, a forgotten sport at Radcliffe for several years, made a triumphant return Saturday as the 'Cliffe laxers trounced Brown, 13-0, at Soldiers Field.

"It was a really fine effort," Radcliffe coach Molly Quinby said yesterday. "The win puts Radcliffe lacrosse on the books for good."

The Radcliffe squad dazed Brown in the first half, 8-0, with both Holly Loring and Ann Johnson racking up hat tricks. The second half was much the same story, with Loring notching another goal and Johnson picking up two more tallies. Karen Durbin, Kayle Patterson, Chloie Gavin and Carlene Rhodes also got into the scoring act, each pounding the nets with solo scores.

Quinby cited the excellent passing from the defensive end to the attack as the reason for the high-scoring 'Cliffe effort. "The passing really paid off," the elated coach said after the victory.

The new squad's showing was especially strong in view of the fact that several of the starters had never played lacrosse before coming to Radcliffe. Quinby said she was most impressed by the play of Karen Durbin, "who hadn't even held a stick before March."

A short season leaves only Wellesley, University of New Hampshire and Princeton on the docket for the lax-women. The Wellesley match is slated for today at Wellesley, and the UNH contest will be held later this week behind the Watson Rink. The 'Cliffe squad will jet to Princeton for its last match on Saturday.
