Boston University held off a strong fourth-quarter rally to defeat Harvard, 66-64, last Saturday night and to capture the first George Jackson Invitational Tournament championship at the IAB.

The title tilt climaxed Friday and Saturday's competition, organized to raise money for the Attica Legal Defense Fund. The Harvard-Radcliffe Afro-American Cultural Center sponsored the event, which was the brainchild of senior Bob Carrington, a member of the second-place Harvard unit.

"I had the idea and went to Imani Kazana (director of the Afro Center)," Carrington said Saturday. "She liked it and said if I worked out the details she'd help me with the project."

Though the turn-out exceeded usual varsity basketball attendance, it failed to net enough money to offset the cost of officials, gym rental and trophies. Carrington said Saturday that the invitational incurred a $150 debt, but that he is not yet sure how the deficit will be made up.

"We'd like to make this an annual event. We hope to have it at B.U. next year and to keep moving it around so each school takes a turn being the host," Carrington said.

Each of the eight teams dressed 12 players, who had not participated in intercollegiate basketball last season.

B.U. knocked off MIT and Tufts enroute to the final while Harvard disposed of Roxbury Community College and Boston College. Tufts defeated Boston State for third place.

Champion B.U.'s captain, center Derek Reveron, won the Most Valuable Player Award. Joining him on the All-Star team were his teammate Bill Caldwell, Walter Hines of Harvard, Tufts's Darryl Brown and Northeastern's Sam Feinberg.
