Brown Takes 4th in Row; Penn Wins

Princeton Trounces Cornell

Brown closed out its football season Saturday by topping Columbia, 28-19, for its fourth consecutive win, while Penn captured third place with a victory over Dartmouth, and Princeton trounced Cornell.

Bruin quarterback Pete Beatrice ran for three touchdowns against the Lions in leading Brown to a fourth-place finish and its second consecutive winning season. Beatrice's first two scores gave Brown a 14-0 halftime lead.

Columbia scored its first touchdown in 15 quarters when quarterback Mike Delaney threw 22 yards to Dexter Brown, but Bruin halfback Kevin Slattery retaliated with a 67-yard scoring dash on the next series.

The Lions' Doug Jackson galloped 45 yards to bring Columbia within nine at 21-12, but Beatrice put the game out of reach, capping a 90-yard drive with his third touchdown run.

At Philadelphia, Penn rallied from a 17-7 halftime deficit to win 27-20. Dartmouth opened the scoring on a 15-yard jaunt by George Grune, but Penn drove 69 yards with Adolph Bellizeare getting the final two.

Trailing 17-14 in the third period, Penn quarterback Marty Vaughn tossed a 31-yard scoring pass to Carl Smith. In the fourth quarter, Dartmouth was called for pass interference in the end zone, giving Penn the ball on the two. Vaughn passed to Bob Bucola, putting the game out of the Big Green's reach.

At Princeton, halfback Walt Snickenberger romped for 163 yards and four touchdowns in his final game as the Tigers thrashed Cornell, 41-20.

Princeton built up a 27-0 lead in the third quarter on three Snickenberger scores and an interception return by Aaron Satterthwaite, the first defensive player to score in eight years. Tim Le Beau tallied twice for the Big Red in the final quarter, but Snickenberger's fourth touchdown iced the victory.
