Band Gets No Go For Off-Color Show

The Yale marching band, which like its counterpart at Harvard, has made a practice of lacing its halftime performances with off-color humor, has been told by the university that it must clean up its act when appearing in the Yale Bowl or stay at home.

With the band scheduled to open its fall season today. Yale secretary Henry Chauncey Jr. has told the band it could be disciplined if it does not show better taste.

Chauncey said yesterday that an increased number of complaints about the content of the band's halftime performances had prompted the action.

In reaction, the band is rumored to have altered today's halftime show to portray "the face of God," one band member said.
