The Cambridge City Council last night recorded its opposition to the proposed power transmission station at Alewife Brook Parkway, citing community hostility towards the project.
Councillor Henry F. Owens III, who introduced the motion, said that if City Manager John H. Corcoran believes the city needs the potential tax revenue of such a power station, then Corcoran should go before the Council to present his argument.
There was also some verbal sparring over tonight's important joint hearing on the future development of Kendall Square.
Councillor Alfred E. Vellucci complained that the hearing would be dominated by the chairpeople of the two subcommittees involved--Councillors Saundra Graham (Housing and Land Development) and Francis H. Duehay '55 (Economic Development, Manpower and Employment).
Both Graham and Duehay assured Vellucci that the hearing would be conducted fairly and with proper deference to all councillors in attendance.
In other action, the Council allocated $100,000 from future revenue sharing funds for summer jobs for Cambridge youths.
