The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) yesterday ruled that domestic airlines must discontinue all family and youth fares by June 1, 1974.
The CAB ruled last December that the special fares are illegal because they discriminate against travellers who are ineligible for the discounts. The board postponed outlawing the fares in order to conduct hearings on adjusting normal fares to compensate for the discount cancellations.
However, yesterday's ruling said that further adjustments would not be necessary because the discounts will be phased out gradually.
The ruling does not apply to international flights, which will retain their discount fares.
