Hunt Hall Woes

BUILDINGS:

The Faculty Council gave its seal of approval this week to the design of the planned $3-million freshman dormitory after examining new sketches which call for a reduction in the structure's size and shape. The dorm will replace Hunt Hall, which will be demolished in mid-June.

The Council approved Wednesday with no objections a resolution thanking President Bok for reviewing the plans for the dorm and also officially welcoming the changes in the new design.

The Council had requested confidentially in early May that Bok and the Corporation consider relocating or substantially reducing the size of the dorm.

The altered plans provide for 205 students to live in the dorm, 33 students lower than the original occupancy projection.

Meanwhile the Save Hunt Hall Committee, a group of Faculty members and students from the Visual and Environmental Studies Department, has collected about 650 signatures on a petition asking Bok to reverse his decision to demolish the structure.
