THURSDAY: The Battle of Culloden (1964) Highly imaginative documentary-style recreation of the last full-scale battle fought on British soil from director Peter Watkins whose BBC Special "The War Game," about the prospect of nuclear warfare, petrified millions. CH.2. 8 p.m. B-W. 90 min. (May be pre-empted by Senate Watergate Hearings, which may also petrify millions).

Tea and Sympathy. (1956) Homosexuality at a boys' school, and one young man's salvation from false accusation by a sympathetic schoolmaster's wife, is the subject, very obliquely, of this nervous little drama from the Robert Anderson play. CH.7. 11:30 p.m. color. 2 hrs 20 min.

FRIDAY: Godzilla, King of the Monsters (1956) Godzilla is not gay nor will be petrify a susceptible ten-year old but he does destroy Tokyo very convincingly. In the end, our hero is brought low by the might of the Japanese non-army, army. CH.56. 8 p.m. B-W. 90 min. You can guess what happens in Godzilla's Revenge (1967). CH.56. 9:30 p.m. color. 90 min.

SATURDAY. The Preakness. The 98th running of jewel two of the Triple Crown from Pimlico Track in Baltimore. Md. I have 5 smackers and a mint julep riding on Derby-winner Secretariat to take the first Triple Crown since 1948. My bookie predicts strong challenges from Sham and Impecunious. CH.7. 5 p.m. Color. Live.

SUNDAY: Joyce Chen's China. Now that President Nioxn has lowered the watergate on China visiting, everyone and his cousin is touring the Middle Kingdom with camera crew in tow to record every delightful moment of the trip. If Cambridge restauranteur Joyce Chen's home movies are as good as her pork lo mein, this Boston special promises to better the average. Included are obligatory visits to the Great Wall, Canton, and Shanghai plus interesting side trips to Chen's family home and the resort town of Hangchow Harvard's own John Kenneth Galbraith cameos as himself. CH.2. 8 p.m. Color. 60 min.

MONDAY: Husbands. (1970) Okay, so it's a hopelessly adolescent indulgence of innocent Huck-Finnish male friendship fantasies. It is a good one. John Cassavetes directed and co-starred with Peter Falk and Ben Gazzara. CH.7 11:30 p.m. Color. 2 hrs. 30 min.

TUESDAY: NBC Reports. I remember at age 6 watching a television special on the Red Menace, produced during the dying days of the McCarthy wave and aired on the Armstrong Reports series, which led me to wonder seriously for some time whether my next-door neighbor was a functioning tool of the insidious and godless conspiracy to undermine my way of life. Tonight, NBC reports on "American Communism Today" and if you watch you may learn something about your next-door neighbor (especially if you live in Old Quincy which I understand is infested with fellow-travelers). CH. 4. 10 p.m. Color. 60 min.

WEDNESDAY: The Enforcer. (1951) Whatever else this Humphrey Bogart crime melodrama may be, it is more violent than the Battle of Culloden and rivals nuclear war. At least ten people die on-screen in bloody detail and another 20 or 30 are implicated in the general mayhem. Bogie comes through clean of course as the upstanding D.A. fighting organized crime. Where are the Special Prosecutors of yesteryear" CH.38. 11 p.m. B-W. 90 min.
