Bad Rain Hampers Crimson Thinclads

The Crimson track team braved wind and rain at the Penn Relays Saturday to record a few performances that shone through in the gray.

Sam Butler won his heat and went on to place fifth overall in the 440 hurdles. Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace won his long jump section, sailing 23 feet into the muddy pit, but sustained a slight leg injury that forced his withdrawal from the triple jump.

Blayne Heckel tied for third in his pole vault section that afternoon and Adrian Tew recorded his personal best in the javelin with a toss in the 210 foot range.

Track coach Bill McCurdy said yesterday, "It was raining so hard out there you couldn't see the other side of the field. Man, if we knew it was going to be like that, we would probably have stayed home and practiced in the Bubble."
