A balanced scoring attack, led by Lyman Bullard's two goals, helped Harvard's undefeated freshman hockey squad to its fourth consecutive victory, a 7-2 win over the Port Huron "B" team yesterday.
Harvard started quickly, with Charlie Flint collecting the first goal of the game at 2:09 of the first period. After spotting the Huron squad two goals in the next four minutes for a 2-1 lead the Crimson settled down into a tight-checking defensive game, holding Huron scoreless the rest of the way while scoring six unanswered goals of their own.
Goals in the first period were also scored by Bill Horton, the leading scorer on the team going into the game, and Bullard, who collected his first of the game late in the period.
Protecting a precarious 3-2 lead entering the second period, the freshmen finally shook off overconfidence from last Saturday's 9-2 victory over the UMass J.V. and scored two goals to virtually put the game away.
The Crimson's Mike Leckie and Ken Dummit traded goals and assists, with Dummit scoring at 9:03 of the period on a pass from Leckie, and then assisting on Leckie's goal at 13:04.
One of the highlights of the period was some fine goalkeeping by Brian Petrovek, who wound up with 16 saves for the game.
The third period saw the Crimson frosh score twice more, including Bullard's second tally, to emerge with the 7-2 victory. The period was marked by sound hockey on Harvard's part, a lack of action, and a short skirmish toward the end of the game between Harvard's Dummit and a frustrated Huron player.
It was evident from the start that the Port Huron team, which plays in a Canadian amateur league, had come to play hockey.
