Helfand Will-Face Trespass Charges

Ira D. Helfand '71 will go on trial Monday in a Middlesex County-Superior Court on three counts of criminal trespassing on Harvard property. He faces a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $300 fine.

The charges, brought by the Administration, stem from Helfand's alleged presence on University property on three occasions last Spring. Helfand, who was separated from Harvard in June 1971, was prohibited at that time from entering University buildings or grounds.

Helfand said Wednesday that the trial date was set over his objections. "My witnesses will not be back in Cambridge yet and I will not be able to present my case," he said.

The trial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Lowell Superior Court.
