The Crimson tennis team, taking three out of five singles matches, turned back Cornell, 6-3, Saturday to move into a tie with Penn and Princeton for second place in the Eastern League.
At number one singles. Harris Masterson, who could not get untracked throughout the singles action, lost to Dirk Dugan, 6-1, 6-1, in straight sets. Dugan is two-time defending Easterns champion and one of the premier singles players in the Eastern League.
Numbers Game
At number two, Ken Lindner won easily. Lindner took straight set wins, 6-1, 6-0, playing what he termed "my best tennis of the year."
At number three, singles man John Ingard won, 6-3, 6-1, and at five and six respectively. Randy Barnett and Chris Nielson also picked up triumphs.
The only singles man to lose other than Masterson was Tom Loring at number four.
In doubles action, Masterson and Lindner, playing at number one, extended their win streak to 11 straight matches. Masterson and Lindner have yet to be defeated this year, and appear headed for top ranking in the East.
Oncoming Darkness
At number two doubles, Ingard and Neilson lost, in a match plagued by oncoming darkness. At number three, Loring and Barnett added another victory to the Harvard total, running the score to 6-3.
