Laxmen Crush URI Ten, 20-0

The varsity lacrosse team destroyed an inexperienced University of Rhode Island squad 20-0 Saturday to take its second victory of the season.

URI was on the defensive from the opening faceoff, as Harvard poured in three goals in the first minute of play. By the end of the first half, Harvard held a 17-goal lead.

Crimson coach Bruce Munro shuffled his players in the third and fourth quarters, replacing the attack with his fourth midfield and moving his starting defensemen up to first midfield. Harvard put in three goals in the last half to make the final score, 20-0.

John Hagerty led the Crimson offense with five goals and six assists, boosting his team-leading point total to 29. Co-captain Verdi DiSesa collected four goals and one assist, while attackman Steve Leahy earned six points.

Junior Joe Walker played in the nets for Harvard in the first half before Bob Coplan replaced him to make the only Crimson save of the game. URI's Bob Caluori stopped 13 out of 33 shots on net.

The victory gives Harvard a 2-7 record, with progressively harder games against MIT, Dartmouth, and Yale remaining. "I could see winning all the remaining matches," Hagerty said, "although in would take some luck and a lot of improvement."
