The Harvard tennis team rebounded from their weekend losses against Columbia and Princeton in convincing fashion yesterday as they beat Brown, 7-2, at Providence. The Crimson took five of the six singles matches, and picked up two more points in first and second doubles.

Harris Masterson recorded his first Ivy League victory in a three-set match against Mike Powers. After winning the first set, 6-2, Masterson missed a backhand passing shot on the ninth point of the second-set tie-breaker, but he took the final set convincingly, 6-3.

Ken Lindner was still off his game with a sore shoulder, and Dave Miller registered the only Bruin victory in singles, 6-3, 6-2.

Harvard ran off straight set victories at three through five, although Randy Barnett was pressed by Bruin soccer star Dick Lay before winning, 7-5, 6-3.

At sixth singles, co-captain Chris Nielson faced a backcourt player, and at first tried only to outsteady him. But after losing the first set, 6-7, Nielson came to net and won easily, 6-3, 6-1.

Because of lateness, the first two doubles matches were decided by twelve-game pro sets. Lindner and Masterson beat Powers and Miller, 12-7, and Inguard and Nielson drubbed the three and four Brown players, 12-4.

Barnett and Loring played a regular match at third doubles, and were surprised in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2.

Harvard's next match is on Saturday when the Indians of Hanover make one of their bi-annual raids of the Soldiers Field courts in search of an upset. Dartmouth turned back the Bruins, 5-4, and they lost to Princeton by the respectable score of 6-3, so a Crimson loss is not inconceivable.
