Furious Cambridge residents last night attacked the Harvard garage which will be built in conjunction with the science center and Gund Hall.

Francis H. Duehay '55, chairman of the Cambridge Council's Subcommittee on Transportation and Parking, presided over last night's hearing at Rindge Technical High School. The meeting was attended by about 50 irate people.

The residents objected to the garage on several counts.

The tenants of a local apartment building said they feared the fumes, noise and possible crime the garage will allegedly bring to the area. They also argued that endless traffic jams will result from the emptying of the garage onto Felton Street at the beginning and end of the day.

Donald C. Moulton, assistant to the vice president for Government and Community Affairs, spoke on behalf of the University and said that Harvard has made efforts "to insure that the garage blends in with the neighborhood as much as possible."

An open meeting with the engineers of the garage is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. today at 16 Grays Hall.
