The freshman icemen played catch-up hockey yesterday against Boston University--coming from behind to tie the game on three occasions--but their efforts fell just short as the Terriers hung on to win the contest, 7-5.

The Crimson had some good scoring bids in the first period, including a great display of stick handling by Kevin Burke who skated around two B.U. defenders only to be foiled by the Terrier goaltender. Defensive errors, however, gave B.U. a two-goal lead by the end of the first stanza.

The Terriers upped their lead to three on a power-play goal at 4:18 of the second period, and it looked as though it would be a long afternoon for the freshmen. But five minutes later, Harvard rallied to score three goals in the span of 58 seconds.

Tough Angle

Bruce Poliquin tallied first on a hard stop shot from the point. Twenty-two seconds later, Wiz Wyatt shot the pack from a though angle and it bounced off the B.U. goalie into the net. Todd Nielrnd capped the rally with a booming shot that beat the goalie cleanly on his left side.

The rest of the game was a see-saw battle, with B.U. again taking the lead at 15:27 of the second period. The Crimson came back to tie the game once more on a power play tally by Nick Bothfeld two minutes later.

Knotted Again

Two minutes into the final period, the Terriers regained their one-goal edge, only to see the game knotted once more 13 minutes later on a tally by Kevin Burke. Burke's goal, however, ended the Crimson scoring for the night, as B.U. scored twice after that to put the game on ice.

The last goal came right at the final buzzer, as Harvard coach Tim Taylor pulled goalie Jon Harris in favor of a sixth skater.

Taylor was obviously displeased with the team's performance, especially after they had crushed UMass, 7-1 last Saturday. "We made too many defensive mistakes," was his only comment after the game.
