Dartmouth Regains First in Ivy Race, As Yale, Cornell, Penn Tie for Second

On a Saturday that saw a full Ivy league football schedule awesome first hall offense was the tune as Dartmouth danced into first place, and upstart Pennsylvania scored its second straight upset, to knock Yale off the top.

At the end of the seventh week, Yale. Penn and Cornell have all squeezed into second place with identical 32 records. The two second place teams of last week parted ways, as the Big Green (3-1-1) vaulted to the top, and Harvard plum meted to fifth place in the standings, tied with Princeton at 2-2-1.

Columbia lost and remained in sixth place at 1-3-1, and cellar-dweller Brown (1-4-0) lost again.

In Hanover, N.H., quarterbacks Steve Stetson of Dartmouth and Don Jackson of Columbia filled the air with passes, but Stetson's team, coasting on a 31-0 second period lead, cruised to a 38-8 victory.

Stetson completed 16 of 24 passes, and Jackson, the Ivy League's leading passer, connected on 19 of 37. Dartmouth passing hit 409 yards.

Five Fumbles

The Lions lost fumbles five times during the contest, and the Big Green turned the first two into touchdowns. Stetson, Rick Klupchak Check Thomas, and Jeff Brandt all ran for Dartmouth TDs.

The Big Green defense held Columbia to 68-yards total offense in the first half. When the defensive reserves entered in the fourth quarter, however. Jackson finally found his favorite receiver, senior Jesse Parks.

In Philadelphia, Penn converted some non-believers left after last week's victory over Harvard, by trouncing Yale, 48-30.

The Quakers, behind third-string starting QB Mare Mandel, powered to a 41-0 lead in the first-half before the Elis rebounded in the fourth quarter.

Stellar Performance

Penn's Adolph Bellizeare run to his second stellar performance in a row and led all rushers with 66 yards, a 50-yard punt return, and two touchdowns. Mandel hit open receivers on seven of ten passes for 103 yards.

Cornell dumped Brown, 48-28, to earn its share of second place. Once again, a first-half margin proved insurmountable, as the Big Red scored five times in the second quarter.

The Bruins were penalized for 127 yards and lost four fumbles and three interceptions.
