Exeter's varsity soccer team edged the Crimson freshmen. 2-1, yesterday in Harvard's season opener at Exeter N.H.

Centerforward Percy Coker from Gambia, scored both of Exeter's goals early in the second half to provide his team with the winning margin.

Coker's first goal came on a deflection off the left goal post at 6.05 in the third quarter. Less than a minute later, he beat Crimson goalie Jim Mckennen to tally again.

Harvard came back at 3.04 of the final period with a goal by Ed Perez on a corner-kick from Ramph Warren.

"My boys did a hell of a job considering the conditions," Crimson coach Dana Getchell said. "With only two weeks of practice, we met a team which had already played three games."

"Exeter had a jump on us in training and organization," Getchell explained. "The team was also fired up, seeking its first win over Harvard since 1962."

Jeff Hargadon and Ralph Booth led Harvard's defense, protecting McKennen, who made 12 saves. Perez played a strong offensive game after moving up from center half to the center forward and position.

"My whole team gave 100 per cent." Getchell said. "I have nothing but respect for the boys, and I expect a good season."

The freshmen booters play their next game one week from today at home against the Babson sub-varsity.
