Water Poloists Take on Tough Bruins

Brown to Send Varsity

Those who expect the Harvard water polo team to literally romp over Brown in tonight's match at the IAB will be in for a big surprise. Despite the Crimson's ten-game unbeaten streak and the fact that Harvard crushed Brown, 26-0, in the recent MIT tourney, captain Mike Graff says this game will be a tough one.

There are several reasons for this not-overly-optimistic prediction. First of all, the team Brown sent to the MIT tournament consisted mostly of junior varsity players. Harvard scored the first shutout by an Eastern team since 1947 against them, but that is no indication of what will happen tonight.

Brown's varsity boasts a very strong center forward, who scored eight out of ten goals in a recent victory over MIT. The Crimson had a tough time against MIT in the final round of the tourney.

Another reason tonight's game will be a close one is the loss of three of the Crimson's starters. Graham White, the team's freshman standout, has left Harvard and gone back to his home in Australia.

Swimming Prospect

White, also an outstanding swimming prospect, left because NCAA rules say that transfer students (White transferred here from Long Beach State) must wait a year before swimming in NCAA competition. Had White waited a year, he would be 22 with only a year of eligibility left in college competition.

Star goalie Doug Forrester is listed as doubtful for tonight due to an injury. Tracy Mallory, who played last week against Northeastern, will probably be in the nets.

Another starter, Peter Hirsch, is out with a soccer injury.

So tonight's game should be a very close and exciting one. It certainly won't be a replay of Harvard's tournament victory over a predominantly J.V. Brown squad. "I predict victory," Graff--said reluctantly, "but not without a lot of work."
