OLYMPICS

A very Brundage, president of the International Olympic Committee, raised doubts Sunday that the Winter Olympics will survive much longer in their present form.

The 84-year-old president, speaking at the opening of the 72nd session of the IOC, lamented the rising costs and growing commercialism of skiing and figure skating.

He said of the Winter Games: "They have accomplished a tremendous humanitarian service by popularizing healthy winter sport and recreation, but they seem to have served their purpose and will find it hard to continue as an amateur sport.
