The Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team (AMURT) announced yesterday that a student fast yielded approximately $1600 to aid refugees in East Pakistan.
Over 2700 Harvard and Radcliffe undergraduates participated in the fast last Dec. 14. Faculty, student and employee contributions made up the remainder of the over $2200 obtained. President Bok led the effort to solicit funds from the Faculty.
AMURT announced that it has sent the money to the UNICEF Committee for East Pakistan Relief.
A UNICEF official in New York said, yesterday that the fund was "quite a large contribution." She added that "UNICEF feels that everything makes a difference."
Craig E. Runde '72, Boston coordinator for AMURT, said yesterday that he received "substantial support" throughout Harvard, particularly from Quincy House.
Students from all the Harvard and Radcliffe Houses participated in the fast. They volunteered to skip a meal and have Harvard Foods Services send a 60-cent rebate for the meal to AMURT.
