When coach Bruce Munro decided to use a 4-2-4 "diamond" defense formation this year, he was pleasantly surprised to find that his new assistant coach, Elliot Klein, had been working with the system for three years at Nassau Community College.

Klein, who was the assistant coach at Nassau for three years, heard of the opening at Harvard through goalie Shep Messing. "Elliot was just what this team needed," Messing said, "He complements Bruce perfectly, and he has been very helpful in working out this new defensive system.

Klein has high hopes for this year's team. "A lot of guys are really excited by this new system. It requires a commitment to team play, and opens up the field so much that you might actually see fullbacks scoring," he said.

"This is the last year for the nucleus of this team, and I think everybody will be working to live up to their potential," Klein said.
