"Bad Boy" Will Scoggins and two other JV oarsmen have moved into Harvard's first boat in New London, and coach Harry Parker claims the boat is now stronger than it's been all season as the Saturday race against Yale approaches.
Senior John Baker and sophomore Gene LaBarre are the other two taking seats in the first boat. This is their first time in the varsity shell, while Scoggins rowed in it twice earlier in the season.
No Surprise
A week ago, Parker had said. "I wouldn't be at all surprised if there are as many as three changes in the varsity boat." Yesterday, when he announced that he had made those three switches, he indicated that the boat was at its best. "I wish we'd been as strong in the Easterns as we are now," he said. Harvard finished third in the Easterns behind Navy and Rutgers.
Scoggins (rowing 5), LaBarre (3), and Baker (2) will join stroke Bill Hobbs, Dave Mitchell (7), Dave Sawyier (6), Brian Johnson (4), and Bill Mahoney (bow). Tom Tiffany is the coxswain. B. H. B.
