Stephen F. Krasner, convicted by a Massachusetts Superior Court jury on charges of making a battering ram that was used in a demonstration at M.I.T. in January 1970, petitioned the state's Supreme Judicial Court for release on bail pending appeal.
A Superior Court judge sentenced Krasner to one year in jail last week following the return of the guilty verdict. He denied bail pending appeal.
Krasuer was convicted of making a steel pipe battering ram which four persons used January 15, 1970 to smash down the office door of Howard W. Johnson, then President of M.I.T. About 50 persons, some of them students, occupied the offices for 36 hours. protesting disciplinary measures taken earlier against some students.
The indictment against Krasher originally was dismissed in Superior Court. but the state appealed, and the Supreme Court upheld the contention that the ram was a burglar tool.
