Duke University has become the second major university to propose a deferred tuition payment plan. Yale first announced such a plan last December.
The Duke plan, which would allow a limited number of students to defer payment on up to $1500 of their tuition and repay the university over a period of 30 years, follows in outline the Yale proposal.

It differs substantially, however, in that just under two per cent of the 8500 Duke students will be allowed to participate the first year, while under the Yale plan all students are eligible.
Under the Duke program, selection priority will be given to those students whose academic field most assures a sound post-graduate income.
