Adolph W. Samborski '25 ended his 50-year Harvard career Monday when he left Cambridge for York, Me., and turned over the post of Director of Athletics to Robert B. Watson '37.
Samborski served as acting director of Athletics during the Fall while Watson took a leave of absence. He officially retired in June after holding the position for seven years.
He came to Harvard in 1921, graduating with a degree in German literature and three letters in both basketball and baseball. Samborski later earned ED.M. and M.A. degrees in modern European history.
Samborski is the man most responsible for setting up the intramural athletic program here, and served for 35 years as its first director. He has also been coach, official and assistant director of Athletics.
Fellow employees had a small party yesterday for Watson, former dean of students at the College, as he moved into his office at 60 Boylston Street.
