Winthrop Romps Over Mather, 3-1, To Take Intramural Hockey Title

Winthrop's undefeated hockey team ran over Mather last night. 3-2, to assure it the top finish in the intramural hockey league.

Winthrop got two goals and an assist from center Nicho Sullivan and a goal and an assist from his winger Bill Hobbs. Cabie Warren, back in the nets after a spell at defense, turned in a sensational job for a former JV defenseman.

The secret of Winthrop's win was its depth. The Throp with three lines and two defensive pairs just wore out Mather, which had only three substitutes.

Mather's only goal came on a picture play by center Craig Bergstrom. Bergstrom and linemates Charlie Olchowski and Phil Fauss might have had the edge on individual talent, but under the breaks they could not hold up.

The win put Winthrop at 7-0-1 and Mather at 6-2. In third place is Leverett, which beat Mather last Thursday.
