Cross Country captain Mike Koerner has been named to the All-Ivy cross country team. A senior, he is the only Crimson runner on the squad.
Koerner led the Crimson consistently for the last three-quarters of the season. Ric Rojas ran ahead of him in the first two meets, but after the sophomore fell to the famous virus which hit most of the squad at one point or another, Koerner took over.
With the exception of Koerner and Princeton's Eric Bates, the rest of the The Quakers contributed seven of the team's 12 members. Heading the majority contingent is freshman Dave Merrick, the individual Heptagonal champion. Making the squad for the second straight year are Penn's Karl Thornton, Bob Childs and Julio Piazza. Cornell's honor winners include Phil Ritson, second in the Heps. Don Alexander, a member of last year's All-Ivy team, and sophomore Phil Collins. The complete All-Ivy cross country team: Pennsylvania--Seniors Karl Thornton, Julio Piazza and Elliott Rogers: juniors Harvard--Senior Mike Koerner. Princeton--Senior Eric Bates.
