NCAA Votes Puck Playoff

The National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union have approved a proposal for a North American Intercollegiate Ice Hockey Championship.

The competition will consist of two contests played on the Friday and Sunday following the completion of the American collegiate championship. One game will be played on the home ice of the Canadian team and one game on the home ice of the NCAA champion.

If the two teams split the two-game series, the winner will be determined by the total points scored.

The series is tentatively scheduled to start with the 1973 season.

The National Collegiate Ice Hockey Championship will be held at the Boston Garden this spring, March 16-18.

In another NCAA decision, the format of the 1971 National Collegiate Soccer Championship will be slightly altered from the traditional procedure. Instead of holding the semifinal and final matches during the first weakened in December, the concluding contests are scheduled during Christmas recess, December 28-30.

The championship games will be held in the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida.

The change is schedule may benefit Harvard fans. For the past two years. Harvard, District I champion, has had to play the District II champion, Hartwick, during Thanksgiving recess.

The District I - District II quarterfinal match will be played on the home field of the District I champion this year.
