U.S Forces Open New Fronts

U.S. and South Vietnamese troops opened three new fronts on the Cambodian border yesterday as North Vietnamese attacks below the demilitarized zone raised the threat of a new offensive in South Vietnam.

North Vietnamese troops attacked a U.S. position 16 miles south of the DMZ and killed 29 Americans the most slain in a single action in 20 months.

The new drives into Cambodia raised to six the number of Allied fronts along the 230-mile border. Informed sources said 20,000-25,000 U.S. troops and thus same number of South Vietnamese are presently engaged in the operation.

In Paris, the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong negotiators boycotted the peace talkes but said they would be back next week. The U.S. and South Vietnamese representatives said they had not decided whether or not to return to the talks.
