Despite injuries to five of its top performers, the freshman track team outran all opposition in the Greater Boston Track Championships Tuesday and Wednesday to win the GBC crown by 70 points.

The Yardlings won eight events to roll up a total of 120 points while stand-outs Dave Elliot, Tom New, and Mark Connally watched from the sidelines. The freshmen also performed without the services of pole-vaulters Steve Skane and Chris St. Lawrence.

Injured Leg

The distance events proved to be the freshmen's strongest area. Half-miler Bobby Clayton, running with an injured leg himself, was nipped at the wire by B.U.'s Carr Locko, but his time of 1:51.6 would ordinarily have won the race easily. Teammate Frank Prior finished close behind in 1:53.4.

Jeff Brokaw won the three-mile in a in a time of 14:40.7. and George Barker took the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:46.3. In the mile and six-mile races, the Crimson scored heavily, placing two men.

Other individual victors for Harvard were Baylee Reid in the 100 (10.1). Fred Lang in the discus (149'), Ted Demars in the hammer (160'7"), Dewey Hickman in the 120 hurdles (15.0), and Kevin Benjamin in the triple jump (46' 8").

Coach Pappy Hunt took the victory in stride, saying, "With hosses like these, how could any team lose?"
