Ecology Activists Protest Building Of Boy's Center In Ringer Park

Ecology activists and Allston residents will attempt to block builders from entering Allston's Ringer Park this morning to begin construction of a boys' club.

Later, at 3:30 p. m., they will march to the Allston-Brighton Neighborhood Center to present a petition asking that the park land not be used for the boys' club.

Park Ruined

"We are going to try to stop them however we can," Rich Green, a Boston Area Ecology Action volunteer, said last night. The damage resulting from the construction would "destroy a majority of the park." he added.

The proposed building will house West End House, Inc., a social service organization for boys which was displaced from its original location in Boston's West End over six years ago by urban renewal construction. West End House purchased the park land from the City of Boston for $25,000.

A Bc-In

Some demonstrators planned to camp in the park last night while others were expected to gather at about 8 a. m. for what Green termed "a be-in." including ecology teach-ins. performances by rock groups, street theatre, kite flying, and a clean-up of litter in the wooded 100-acre park.

Yesterday local residents and ecology activists rebuilt a 50-ft. strip of stone wall that had been knocked down last week so that a construction but could be built. So far 1200 Allston residents have signed the petition to block construction of the boys' club, Green said.
