Ed School Plans To Alter Format

The Faculty of the Graduate School of Education has voted to establish five new departments, which will reorganize degree programs and establish decision-making procedures in their respective areas.

The reorganization plan provides for "working parties" of students and faculty for each of the five new areas-Administration and Social Policy. Human Development, Humanities, Public Psychology, and Pedagogy. Each area working party will work to consolidate the degree programs under its auspicies and to make decisions on admissions, degree requirements, and new courses. Their proposals will be completed by November 1, and the Committee on Academic Policy will then vote on them.

Presently, the School of Education has 18 separate degree programs, many of which are staffed by only one or two faculty members. The Committee on Academic Policy hopes that the consolidation of degree programs will provide more faculty members for each area.
