The Earth People will celebrate their Festival of Life next weekend on the overpass between the Yard and the Law school.
Catfish Black, other rock bands, and theatre and dance groups have already agreed to come. The Earth People will have free clothing and food stores, they said, "where people can bring what they do not need and take what they can use." During the festival, participants can help set up plastic air houses, Mongolian yurts, and teepees.
The idea of an Earth People's Festival orginated with some participants in the Kennedy Institute seminar on youth culture.
"These are the ideas." an Earth person said yesterday. "Ideas are only so much talk until people do them. That is what the Festival is all about. The more our energies can be gathered together in the next few days, the more far-out things will happen. Everybody who wants to get into the idea is a member of Earth People."
"The arrangements for the festival have been cleared with the university," he continued. "We have the land. It is going to happen. There is no organization that will do the festival for you. You have to come down and do it."
Hog Farm
The Earth People said that the Hog Farm may also come. A New Mexico-based commune which visited Harvard last month, the Hog Farm travels across the country in old school buses putting on rock concerts, light shows, and far? contests.
Festival organizers claim they will require at least $1000 to pay for electrical and sound systems. As of yet, they add, they have no money. They say they hope that people will start donating not only their energy but also their "green energy." "If people could just get money from their roommates it would help. If people could scrounge up electrical cables it would save $350. The people are the festival," an Earth person said.
