Track captain Keith Colburn, a strong favorite in the 1000-yard ru?? at Saturday's IC4A meet in Madison Square Garden, is passing up a chance for the title in that event in order to run in the mile.
Colburn had an excellent chance to become the first Harvard runner to win an IC4A title since 1932, when Norwood Hallowell won the mile in 4:12.4.
"There's a better field in the mile," Colburn said last night. "It'd be nice to win a title, but you get tired of just winning, and I prefer a good ?? challenge."
His opponents will included Liquori of Villanova, considered to be the world's best mile run ??
Though he has run the mile ?? of times. Colburn has not run ?? fast competition, and his times than most of the other IC4A ?? His best indoor time is 4:11?? best outdoor is 4:07.2, which ?? ed ?????
