"We just can't seem to get it all together," Harvard wrestling coach John Lee said yesterday as he prepared the Crimson matmen for tomorrow's 2 p.m. meeting with rugged Hofstra at Hempstead, N.Y.
It had appeared that the Crimson would be back at full strength tomorrow for the first time since December, but junior Pat Coleman is out indefinitely with a torn cartilage in his nose.
Jim Abbott (unlimited) will start against the Flying Dutchmen after recovering from a knee injury that sidelined him for almost a month.
To compensate for Coleman's absence, Dean Sheppard has come down from 158 and will start at 150. In another lineup change, Mark Faller will move up to the 177-pound class and Bart Harvey will replace him at 167.
Harvey will have his hands full with Hofstra co-captain Bill Stauffer. But Faller should win easily at 177. Mark Goldberg (177), the Dutchmen's other co-captain, is hampered by an eye injury and will probably not compete against Faller.
"They just won't be as good with Goldberg out," Lee said.
Mark Slutzker won a wrestle-off against Colin Mangrum Wednesday, and will start at 158. His opponent will be Rich Iseke, who this week lost a narrow 3-1 decision to the defending Eastern champion, Wall Strosser of Temple.
Harvard could break through in the lower weights tomorrow, with Rick Battle at 134 and Steve Monsulik coming on at 126 "It's getting to the point where Monsulik can beat people. He's a tough little guy," Lee said yesterday.
Lee had originally thought that Hofstra would be the Crimson's toughest foe this season, but the Dutchmen dropped a 20-12 match to unheralded Temple Tuesday night. Although it was only Hofstra's second loss, it did make things seem brighter for Harvard. As Lee put it, "None of these teams are unbeatable,"
