Harvard's varsity squash team dropped two five-game matches to Ontario, seeded number one for the competition, as the Crimson was eliminated in the third round of the United States Squash Racquet Association's National Amateur Tournament in Philadelphia.

In the individual championships, Harvard captain Larry Terrell lost to former Harvard star Charlie Ufford '53 in the round of sixteen.

The Crimson's five man team drew a bye in the first round of competition and advanced against Detroit's number one team. Detroit was completely outclassed by the Crimson, losing the match 5-0 and taking only one individual game.

Luck Ran Out

The tables turned on Harvard in the next round as the Crimson lost to the topranking team in the tournament, 4-1. The match was closer than the score indicates for Fernando Gonzalez and Ed Atwood both extended their opponents to five games. John Ince. playing at number one, upset Andy Musler in five games for Harvard's only point.

Gonzalez fought a see-saw battle with Craig Benson, currently United States Junior Amateur Champion, "I played two good games and he three," Gonzalez said. The deciding game was the third, in which Gonzalez tied Benson at 13-13, only to lose the next two points.

Terrell played the villain in his match with Ufford, twice intercollegiate champion when he was at Harvard. The 39-year-old Ufford played incredibly well, much to the delight of the crowd which was solidly behind the "old man." Ufford used a series of drop shots and wrist backhands to run Terrell off the court in four games.
