Dave Hynes and Bob MacNanama combined for eight goals to power the Harvard freshman hockey team to victory over a young and small Andover team, 9-1. at Watson Rink yesterday.
Andover outshot the Crimson for the first 12 minutes of the contest, but when MacNanaman tipped in a bomb from the point at 12:?7 the floodgates were opened and Andover's back was broken.
From then on in the slick Hynes-MacNanama d?? picked apart the Andover defense. By the end of the first period Hynes had converted three MacNamara passes into scores and Harvard led. 4-0.
Harvard kept the Andover team at bay in the second period with a well-oiled passing attack, and uni?ashed a barrage of shots at the spunky Blue netminder. But Andover showed a lot of poise in tightening up its defense and gave up only two goals to Hynes and Harry Reynolds.
Hynes Scores Six
The pace of the game slackened considerably in the final frame, with Harvard still maintaining control. MacNanama picked up two goals to go with his five assists, and Hynes scored again to give him six for the afternoon.
Andover, which has been considered a Harvard "??? club" in past years, was sub-par this year, and disappointed a small but ??? contingent of alumni and parents. One departing alumnus tugged at his pipe and moaned. "This is the worst Andover team in nine years."
