The Holy Cross Crusaders play host to the varsity fencing team tonight in a match that should not challenge the Crimson's fencing superiority in Massachusetts but will provide much-needed practice for the second-team fencers.
The second team got some practice in an earlier match this week against Trinity College.. but they had to be helped by the first team halfway through the second round when Trinity proved to be more difficult than anticipated Coach Edo Marion will change his strategy against the Crusaders and start the first team, replacing them with the seconds after the first round.
This plan, hopefully, will give the second team some confidence and a substantial lead to rely on.
Cetrulo, Keller to Rest
But Larry Cetrulo and T?? Keller, the Crimson's outstanding fencers, will not compete at all. Number-one epee John Reitz will fence in all three bouts. He has yet to recover his timing after his two-month absence with the flu.
The start of co-educational living in the Houses has, it seems, had favorable effects on the fencing team. Five fencers seem noticeably happier and contented. "Their fencing hasn't improved but they sure are very happy," coach Marion said yesterday.
"It has also affected the other team members." Marian added. "The whole atmosphere has become much lighter in the fencing room."
