The Polaroid Corporation announced yesterday that it would halt all sales of its products to South Africa, where they might he used directly or indirectly in that government's apartheid program.
Two weeks ago, more than 200 people, mostly Polaroid employees, protested the sale of Polaroid products in South Africa at a rally in Tech Square sponsored by the Polaroid Revolutionary Workers Movement.
"Polaroid has, in the past, prohibited sale of its identification system to the South African government for use in its apartheid passport program. We are now discontinuing sale of any Polaroid products, including film, directly or indirectly, which might be used in this identification program," Arthur Barnes, Polaroid's senior vice-president, said Wednesday.
Barnes said that two Polaroid representatives are on their way to South Africa to carry out the task of halting the sale of the Polaroid "ID-2" system to industries and military agencies in South Africa.
